MARINAS - RHODE ISLAND

Brewer Cove Haven Marina is nine miles southeast of Providence. This is the part of the U.S. where they take boating, yachting and sailing very seriously. The marina has 329 seasonal slips and all the typical amenities needed for boaters. Onsite they have clean restrooms and showers, a swimming pool, picnic area with barbeque grills, ice and sundries and a ship's store. The service/repair department here is the best in this industry with this facility quietly noted worldwide for their extensive work with 12 Meters, J-Boats, and other high-performance racing machines.

Writer’s note: The Barrington Yacht Club has been around since 1908. Today, the town of Barrington boasts an 18-hole golf course, a four-acre town beach (excellent for sun bathing), overlooking the Bay, a very challenging 30-mile bike path that twists through much of Rhode Island's East Bay, and is very close by to the world's yachting center - Newport.

East Passage Yachting Center is a yachting facility located six miles north of the Newport-Jamestown Bridge on Narragansett Bay and offers over 360 slips for boats ranging from 20 to 150 feet. A complete and family-oriented marina, East Passage offers all the ship to shore amenities you would expect from a full service facility, such as: restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, swimming pool, volleyball court and picnic area. Boaters rest assured that their prized possession is well taken care of here with the marina able to provide any and all long term or winter storage services.

Writer's note: Try Melville Grille, serving the usual seaside fare with their own unique twists, located at the marina. Even though they have a beautiful sea side dining room that is air conditioned, if the weather is nice, ask to sit outside on the patio and dine "al fresco"!

Goat Island Marina’s striped awnings signal to you that you've reached the 175 (deep water) slip facility on the west side of Newport Harbor. Breathtaking views everywhere you look and home of several world class regattas, this marina and harbor are at the heart of the boating and yachting world. Only minutes from downtown Newport, amenities include: showers and restrooms, laundry facilities, car rentals, meeting rooms, yacht rentals and much more.

Writer's note: Several cool things are in store for travelers here! From Memorial Day to Labor Day and for around $40, per person, you can take a Sunset sail on the schooner Aurora after feasting on an authentic dockside New England Lobster Boil. Dinner is from 5-6:30pm and the sailing takes place from 6:30-8pm. The other place I love to stay when I’m in Newport is the Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel and Spa. Ask for their Liberty Suite with the Lighthouse View...perfect! They also have a fantastic Day Spa here, called Stillwater.
