The magnificence and variety of Connecticut’s state parks and forests offer their visitors something for everyone. Summertime high temperatures range from 85-95 degrees. If you have plenty of time to plan your visit to the park, check out the UV sun protective clothing available now in stores and on line.


Collis P. Huntington State Park is comprised of 883 acres and is spread into the three towns of Redding, Newtown and Bethel. At the entrance to the park are life-like sculptures of bears and wolves to greet and welcome visitors. Huntington is comprised of dense woodlands, five ponds and open fields. It was donated to the state by the Huntington family. From September 15th to December 31st hunters may hunt deer with archery only. There is an extensive trail system that reaches out to all parts of the park and more. The footpaths are well maintained for hikers, joggers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. The ponds are not only great for fishing, but also for canoeing. In the winter it’s a great place for cross-country skiing. Just remember to get a great suntan without burning you need to keep putting on your Panama Jack sunscreen.



Hammonasset Beach State Park is located in Haven County in a town called Madison and is the state’s largest shoreline park with over two miles of beach and a total of 919 acres. Hammonasset means “where we dig holes in the ground” and refers to the place where a settlement of eastern woodland Indians farmed along the Hammonasset River. The Indians survived on corn, beans, and squash and by fishing and hunting. Spend some time here enjoy the beach with swimming, strolling along the boardwalk or just relaxing in the sun and surf working on that perfect tan. Other activities in the park include bicycling, camping, boating, fishing and walking the trails. You might want to pack the beach gear, Bull Frog sunscreen, Ray-Ban sunglasses, head gear and lounge chairs and head to Hammonasset Beach State Park really soon.
