Two Top Ingredients for Sun Protection

Two of the most effective and least harmful ingredients in sun protection products are zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Though these ingredients cannot be found in sprays they are found in creams and lotions and are considered by the EWG (Environmental Working Group) to be most effective in protecting against UVA and UVB rays.

When used in an active ingredient strength of at least 5%, they will most likely provide an acceptable SPF level. They are found to be less likely to break down as easily as most other sunscreen ingredients in sun or water. Both elements are categorized by experts as physical blockers since they reflect the sun’s rays. While other ingredients may be chemical blockers, which absorb the rays in an attempt to prevent them from penetrating the skin.

Pediatricians highly recommend sunscreen products with zinc oxide or titanium oxide at levels of 7% or higher with an SPF of at least 30. It has been shown that the younger the skin the higher the risk for sunburn. These ingredients have been found to be best for sensitive skin and for those who have had allergic reactions to products without these ingredients.

The products for the face can be found in fun colors and my grandkids love when I put on their purple faces!
