Arizona Vacations In The Sun | Plan You Arizona Vacation Today

The word, Arizonac was initially applied to the silver mining camp, and later (shortened to Arizona) to designate the entire territory and was the 48th state admitted to the Union on February 14, 1912.

Now here’s a great tidbit of great information; Arizona has had more female governors than any other state!

Arizona is one of the “four corners” states as it borders California, Colorado (just touches it), Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. Children of all ages can stand in all four states at one time when visiting the Four Corners Monument on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona. The state is home to the Grand Canyon, many national forests, monuments, parks and Indian reservations. In size, Arizona is the sixth largest state in area, having 113,998 square miles and is approximately 15% privately owned. The remaining area is public forest and park land, recreation areas and Native American reservations.

Arizona is best known for its desert scenery, which is rich in plants such as the cactus. The Desert Botanical Garden in the state capital of Phoenix will give you a wonderful education regarding desert plants and how the indigenous people used them. The climate is known for unusually hot, dry summers and mild winters. However, in the north-central high country pine tree area is in and less heat in the summers.

The Grand Canyon is a must-see place to visit when in Arizona. “A visit here is guaranteed to be one that will lift spirits, warm souls and provide memories for years to come” is a quote from the Arizona Guide. The Grand Canyon is one of the first national parks in the United States and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The canyon was created when the Colorado River, after five million years, cut a channel through the mountain area. The river is about 277 miles long, between 4 to 18 miles wide and has a depth of more than one mile. It's a good idea to plan ahead for any trip to the Canyon because it has some five million visitors a year. The park is better able to get into from entrances on the South Rim, the North Rim and the eastern edge.

Because of all the wonderful sunshine and incredibly beautiful weather year-round in Arizona, there are endless places for playing golf (Arizona is on the PGA Tour and hosts the Phoenix Open), fishing, sailing, swimming, strolling, running, horseback riding, biking and boating. You can ride in a balloon or fly a hang-glider. There are many deep wondrous caves to explore, such as the Lava Tubes of Northern Arizona or the Colossal Cave Park near Tucson. Lake Powell has 2,000 miles of shoreline and has lots of water activities. Go white water rafting or cruise down the two-mile Tempe Town Lake, where it was once a dry riverbed. There are many botanical gardens to wander around in, parks to visit and zoos with a variety of animals to see. Want something a little different? There are old west towns to see “shoot ‘em ups”, dude ranches in the southern part of the state where you can become a cowboy or cowgirl in the summers and winter guests get to partake in adventures in the ski areas. Throughout the state there a unusual museums, including the Arizona Science Center with “hands-on” experience, the Hall of Flame Fire Museum, the Pima Air and Space Museum and many more.

There are plenty of options for evening entertainment because of the many cultures represented in Arizona. For instance, Arizona has some unique wine bars where you can sample special wine from grapes grown in local vineyards. Wilcox, Elgin and Page Springs seem to be the areas with the most wineries. If you like to dance, there is live music, great entertainment, and a good collection of great clubs that make the Greater metro areas nightlife meccas. Dance clubs are found throughout the cities of Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale where you will hear a variety of music, from country & western to hip-hop, top 40, Salsa and techno. Many of the Native American communities have casinos that are located throughout the state, where you can play black jack, keno, the slots and more. They also offer live music, dining and entertainment. Some award-winning breweries can be found in Arizona, including the Four Peaks Brewing Company in Tempe or try Sunspot Gold, a favored beer, at the SanTan Brewing Company in Chandler. Definitely try out the Sun Up™ Brewing Company in Phoenix for beer is made with passion and paired with great food.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a couple of days or a couple of weeks to spend on your vacation, Arizona is a playground with an unlimited number of things to do, places to see, history to discover and adventures for whole families to enjoy.

Now get out in the sun and have a great time!!
